About this Surah: Surah Al-Falaq (The Daybreak) is the 113th chapter of the Quran. Along with Surah An-Nas, it is known as Al-Mu’awwidhatayn (the two refuges) and is recited for protection from all evils. It was revealed in Makkah and contains 5 verses seeking refuge in Allah from various harms.
بِسْمِ ٱللَّٰهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

قُلْ أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ الْفَلَقِ
Qul a’ūdhu birabbi l-falaq
1. Say, “I seek refuge in the Lord of daybreak
2
مِن شَرِّ مَا خَلَقَ
Min sharri mā khalaq
2. From the evil of that which He created
3
وَمِن شَرِّ غَاسِقٍ إِذَا وَقَبَ
Wa min sharri ghāsiqin idhā waqab
3. And from the evil of darkness when it settles
4
وَمِن شَرِّ النَّفَّاثَاتِ فِي الْعُقَدِ
Wa min sharri n-naffāthāti fī l-‘uqad
4. And from the evil of the blowers in knots
5
وَمِن شَرِّ حَاسِدٍ إِذَا حَسَدَ
Wa min sharri ḥāsidin idhā ḥasad
5. And from the evil of an envier when he envies.”
Benefits & Significance: This surah is recited as a means of seeking Allah’s protection from all kinds of harm, both seen and unseen. It is recommended to recite it in the morning and evening, before sleeping, and after prayers as a form of spiritual protection. Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) would recite Surah Al-Falaq and Surah An-Nas when feeling ill or before sleeping.
